Here are 22 crazy facts about the show…

1) The Show Was Nearly Called Something Else

Before settling on Supernatural, creator Eric Kripke originally wanted to call the series “Unnatural.” Thankfully, the title was changed before it hit the air.

2) It Was Inspired by Urban Legends

Kripke drew inspiration from classic American folklore and urban legends. The first season leaned heavily into stories of the Hook Man, Bloody Mary, and other mythic tales.

3) The Pilot Was Filmed in Canada

Like most of the series, the pilot was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. The city became the Winchester brothers’ home base for the entire 15-year run.

4) Jeffrey Dean Morgan Played an Older Role

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played John Winchester, was only 12 years older than Jensen Ackles in real life. Makeup and characterization helped sell him as the brothers’ father.
