Our Favourite Ads That Contain Movie Characters (Or Act as Mini Sequels)

Throughout the last few years, we’ve been delighted to see adverts that contain movie characters, or even try to act as short sequels. Here are a few of our favourites…

7) Tourism Australia x Crocodile Dundee

With Chris Hemsworth and Danny McBride on board, Tourism Australia did an amazing job of posing their ad as a trailer for a Crocodile Dundee reboot. We were actually a bit gutted once the penny dropped, as we’d love to see the movie! Paul Hogan even makes an appearance.

6) Kia x The Matrix

In their 2014 Super Bowl Commercial, Kia brought Laurence Fishburne back to play Morpheus. A valet, he gives a couple the choice of two car keys – if they take the blue key, they go back to the luxury they know, but if they take the red key, they’ll never look at luxury the same way again.

5) Cadillac x Edward Scissorhands

At 2021’s Superbowl, Cadillac unveiled their fabulous Edgar Scissorhands ad. Focusing around the son of Edward Scissorhands, Winona Ryder herself returned to play Kim!

4) Direct Line x Winston Wolfe

Winston Wolfe, played by Harvey Keitel, is undoubtably one of the most memorable characters from Pulp Fiction. So two decades later, we were delighted to see him pop up in the adverts for insurance company Direct Line, where he gets to use his best lines.

3) M&S x Paddington

Marmalade sandwiches at the ready! For Christmas 2017, M&S crossed over with Paddington for a charming festive ad. Ben Wishaw returned to voice the little bear as he mistakes a burglar for Santa Claus, and helps him return all his stolen presents.

2) Google Home x Home Alone

In one of our favourite ever Christmas ads, Macaulay Culkin returns as Kevin McCallister. Once again, he finds himself home alone, but makes use of Google Home to pay for his pizza, answer the door, remind him to do chores, and even defend the house against burglars!

1) Sky x E.T.

In this ad from Sky (if you’re in the UK) and Xfinity (if you’re not), Elliot’s kids are playing in the snow when they discover they’ve got a visitor – E.T.! Elliot shows him all the things that have changed in the past three decades. They watch films, eat sweets and play on a VR game before the alien eventually gets homesick and heads home.
